The explosion of the sports and fitness industry over the last few years has resulted in a myriad of information to help support fitness goals.

For males, heavy training protocols and restrictive dietary protocols undertaken for long periods of time, or periodically, as in sports that require you to make specific weight categories, can exert immense pressure on bodily systems. This can leave you susceptible to the effects of inflammation and increase the risk of injury.

Common complaints are digestive disturbances, especially amongst endurance athletes, who may be more susceptible to intestinal permeability (leaky gut). Male athletes are not immune to hormonal imbalances, disordered eating patterns and misconceptions surrounding nutrition.

I often find that male athletes are either not eating enough, or the diet is high in calories but is not providing the correct ratio of macro and micro nutrients.

Each athlete is unique, and my approach is to gain a comprehensive health history from each client. During your first visit we will measure your body composition and analyse your current food diary. Where necessary, I will request to work with your GP to obtain blood work to help identify any underlying deficiencies or inflammatory markers and I may recommend functional testing where necessary, and these may include:

 

  • Comprehensive stool analysis
  • Organic acid testing
  • Adrenal stress profile
  • DNA profiling

I will start your nutrition program by calculating a recommended calorie intake and macro split, however in the initial stages I will strip your nutrition program right back to basics. I will work with you to ensure that you are responding well to any changes and so that we get the program right for you.
