CIRS... Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome

CIRS...

CIRS, or Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, is a complex and chronic illness caused by exposure to biotoxins. Biotoxins include mould, yeast, bacteria, and viruses, that trigger an abnormal immune response in genetically susceptible individuals. This response fails to clear biotoxins, leading to chronic and systemic inflammation throughout the body.

Common symptoms of CIRS include fatigue, depression, brain fog, digestive issues, joint and muscle pain, and more. Due to its complexity, CIRS is often misdiagnosed as other conditions like Lyme disease or autoimmune disorders.

In addition, CIRS is often influenced by genetic predisposition, with about 25% of the population having the genetic markers that make them susceptible to the condition. Effective diagnosis may involve a combination of medical history, genetic testing, visual contrast sensitivity testing, and specific biomarker analysis.  Overall, CIRS is a challenging condition that requires a multifaceted approach for diagnosis and management.

Addressing CIRS involves identifying and removing the source of biotoxin exposure, which can include mould in water-damaged buildings, viral infections, and other toxins. Natural strategies are then employed to improve symptoms and promote healing.

"CIRS is a complex puzzle that demands a thorough investigation and a collaborative approach. To avoid leaving individuals with ambiguous diagnoses, it's crucial to work with a team of practitioners and be open to a blend of medications and supplemental support.

By piecing together, the right elements, we can unlock the path to relief and improved quality of life."

The Symptom Clusters of CIRS...

A finding of any symptom in each cluster gives you one point. There are thirteen symptom clusters. Six or more points are considered diagnostic of CIRS for children and eight or more diagnostic for teens and adults.

Management

Pinpointing the root causes of CIRS is essential when deciding on further referrals and interventions. CIRS is a complex condition often triggered by biotoxin exposure. Key factors to consider:

Mould Exposure: Mould in water-damaged buildings can produce mycotoxins, fuelling chronic inflammation. A serum IgG and IgE antibody Mycotoxin Test helps identify mould toxicity.

Lyme and Lyme co-infections: Lyme disease's immune response can mimic CIRS symptoms. Correct testing is crucial as many tests available are no accurate in diagnosing Lyme disease

Bartonella: Bartonella or “cat scratch disease”, a stealthy bacterium, often goes undetected but can contribute to chronic health issues. Bartonella can often coexist with other infections like Lyme disease, making accurate diagnosis vital.  Again, testing is complicated, and it is important to ensure the right types of tests are conducted.

Bacterial, Viral, fungal and parasitic Infections: Infections disrupt the immune system, fuelling inflammation. Tests like the GI-Effects Stool Analysis and Comprehensive Viral Panel can help to uncover these culprits.

Removing the initial cause: If mould is determined to be the underlying issue, it's crucial to remove yourself from the source. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, this might entail complete mould remediation in your home, vehicle, or even changing your workplace. In cases where viral, bacterial, mould, or fungal factors are identified as root causes, a treatment approach involving antibiotics, antifungals, and/or natural therapies may be necessary.
